The mission of the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) fosters meaningful engagement opportunities that challenge, support, and empower students to be leaders on campus, in the community and beyond.

 

The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) provides and facilitates student engagement opportunities for MSU students through a variety of programs, events, services, and activities. We are THE HUB for students interested in connecting with their fellow Bobcats through student government, student organizations, programs and events, and engaging in service to the community.

 

Internship Needs

The Office of Student Engagement is seeking an intern for 9 to 12 hours a week to assist with volunteer recruitment, program management, and marketing. There is an opportunity for nonprofit management experience in this position and program development. Expectations and full duties are described below. This is a paid internship - $11/Hour.

 

We are seeking someone to manage MSU Connections, the Building a Career in the Non-Profit Sector Panel, and Can the Griz. Flexibility in hours and required after hours/weekends in November.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage the Building a Career in the Non-Profit Sector Panel
    • Organize panelists
    • Assist in Marketing
    • Coordinate food, reservations, and communication
  • Manage MSU Connection Presentations
    • Invite Non-Profits
    • Coordinate food, reservations and communications
    • Communication with department presenters
  • Assist in Can the Griz Programming
    • Help create and distribute marketing materials
    • Aid in strategic marketing development
    • Collaborate with the Gallatin Valley Food Bank
    • Coordinate Food Drives
    • Assisting in Public Community Relations
  • Volunteer organization and management
    • Recruit volunteers for Community Engagement Programs
    • Participate in training new volunteers
  • Fundraising and Outreach
    • Help identify community and campus partnerships
  • Other duties as assigned 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Highly organized and self-motivated

Through this internship, the intern will gain hands-on experience in running multiple programs in a lively environment. They will consistently work with nonprofits as well as managing a team of volunteers and involvement in the MSU and Gallatin Valley community with the chance to network.

Productions Associate

2020-2021 Position Description

The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) provides and facilitates student engagement opportunities for MSU students through a variety of programs, events, services, and activities. We are THE HUB for students interested in connecting with their fellow Bobcats through student government, student organizations, programs and events, and engaging in service to the community.

Do you love lighting and sound productions? ASMSU hosts exciting events that need your help. Be part of the team that runs the tech to make our events possible-and see the show for free! The Productions Associate is responsible for assisting the ASMSU Productions Director with lighting and audio equipment setup, layout, and implementation of ASMSU/PACE (Programming Activities and Campus Events) Board events like concerts, comedy shows, guest speakers, and more. The Productions Associate will be an efficient, cooperative member of a team that contributes to making ASMSU events successful. 

 

Work Schedule: Flexible, depending on academic schedule. Expect around 35 hours of work per month (give or take depending on event schedule).

Employment Start Date:  August 2020

Wage: $385/month stipend with half month pay for August 2020

Films Director

2020-2021 Position Description

The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) provides and facilitates student engagement opportunities for MSU students through a variety of programs, events, services, and activities. We are THE HUB for students interested in connecting with their fellow Bobcats through student government, student organizations, programs and events, and engaging in service to the community.

Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU) is the student government association serving as the elected voice of MSU-Bozeman students.  ASMSU Student Directors within the Office of Student Engagement are responsible for managing programs for students and the campus community.  Their programs and positions are paid for by student fee dollars.

Work Schedule:  Flexible, depending on academic schedule.  16-20 hours/week during academic year (excluding university holidays & breaks).

Employment Start Date:  August 17th, 2020 (may have some Summer hours)

Wage:  Stipend - $6,806

Eligibility:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Films Director is responsible for all aspects of operating the ASMSU Procrastinator Theater.
  • The position is open to all majors, while experience with audio/visual technology and video editing software is preferred.
  • Basic requirements include having a passion for movies, taking pride in entertaining audiences, being capable to work both independently and in team environments, and acute attention to detail.
  • Responsibilities include making all programming decisions, working with film distributors to obtain rights for film exhibition and negotiate contracts, managing and scheduling a staff of Theater Operators, developing strategies for marketing communications and effectively executing those plans, managing and maintaining theater technology, facilities, and resources in collaboration with SUB Administration, Conference and Events Services, and third party contractors.
  • The Films Director also plans and organizes special events in the theater – both independently and with campus and community organizations.
  • The Films Director will be responsible for hiring and managing a minimum of 6 associates to help with the production of the theater.
  • The Films Director is responsible for managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board.
  • The Films Director will be asked to attend bi-monthly program director meetings.
  • The Films Director will be advised by the OSE Assistant Director and supervised by the ASMSU Vice President.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • The Director must have exceptional organization, management, and communication skills.
  • Preferred experience in leadership or team management.

  • The Business Manager Assistant will assist ASMSU’s Business Manager in executing the mission of ASMSU. Primary responsibilities include spreadsheet creation, updating, and reviewal.
  • Additional responsibilities may include general office work and assisting the ASMSU executive team with projects throughout the academic year.

  • The Business Manager is the business and administrative position supporting the business operations of ASMSU.
  • Holds a minimum of 7 office hours per week.
  • Works closely with the Director of Operations, the ASMSU President and Vice President, and ASMSU Program Directors to manage ASMSU business operations.
  • Attends weekly Senate meetings and presents monthly spending updates to Senate.
  • Tracks and reviews monthly spending of all ASMSU programs.
  • Organizes and manages the spring semester budgeting process for the following year.
  • Additional duties include making weekly deposits, reconciling, and attending weekly Administrative, Executive, and Finance Board meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The ASMSU Student Director of Diversity and Inclusion is responsible for promoting and actively working towards an inclusive and welcoming environment within ASMSU and the MSU campus.
  • The Director will foster partnerships with organizations at MSU and within the Bozeman community to enhance and expand diversity and inclusion awareness, services, programming, and education.
  • Organize an engaging speaker event and the Annual Diversity Symposium at MSU in the spring.
  • Responsible for managing a budget that includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board, in addition to advocating for any supplemental funds that may be needed.
  • In order to maintain a strong relationship between the elected officials of the student body, the Director will meet with their liaison no less than twice a month keeping them informed of upcoming events and initiatives.
  • The Director is encouraged to schedule bi-monthly meetings with the Diversity and Inclusion Student Commons Program Manager for formal mentorship opportunities pertaining to diversity and inclusion best practices and efforts in an institutional context.
  • Will be asked to attend bi-monthly program director meetings.
  • The Director is also encouraged to sit on student and/or faculty led committees that apply to the overall mission and goals of the position, both within the office and across campus as they arise.

Community Engagement Program Director

2020-2021 Position Description

The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) provides and facilitates student engagement opportunities for MSU students through a variety of programs, events, services, and activities. We are THE HUB for students interested in connecting with their fellow Bobcats through student government, student organizations, programs and events, and engaging in service to the community.

Work Schedule:  Flexible, depending on academic schedule.  8-12 hours/week during academic year (excluding university holidays & breaks). The student in this position will also be required to work on the first Saturday of each month during the academic year.

Employment Start Date:  Earliest: August 24th, 2020; Latest: August 31st, 2020

Wage:  $11.00/hour

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a full-time enrolled MSU-Bozeman student fall 2020 and spring 2021 (at least 12 credits per semester).
  • Preference will be given to students with work study funding.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate one Service Saturday event per month (October-April), establishing 4-6 individual projects for each Saturday.
  • Help coordinate Convocation Service Saturday (the kick-off Service Saturday event in September).
  • Develop new marketing strategies to encourage participation from the MSU community and general public.
  • Communicate with local non-profit organizations to collect project proposals and develop service projects for each Service Saturday.
  • Act as point person for host sites, project leaders, volunteers, and drivers.
  • Work with student groups (i.e. student organizations, athletics, etc.) to increase awareness and participation in Service Saturdays.
  • Recruit project leaders and van drivers for each event, holding leader trainings as necessary. Service Saturday Coordinators are allowed to lead a project, but it is not required.
  • Accurately track volunteer numbers, hours and impacts of service projects on the community and participants.
  • Meet weekly with supervising staff in OSE.
  • Hold regular office hours, averaging 8-12 hours/week.
  • Assist with coordinating Spring BreaksAway projects
    • Lodging reservations, reserve vehicles, update leader manuals.
  • Assist with the Day of Student Recognition
    • Gathering materials, organizing applications, and day of event assistance.
  • When time permits, assist with other community engagement events that arise throughout the year and other tasks as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Must be:

  • Prepared to commit to a set schedule in the OSE, sharing space, equipment and supplies with other staff;
  • Willing to make a one-academic year commitment to the position working approximately 10-12 hours per week (excluding university holidays & breaks);

  • Health and wellbeing are crucial aspects of a successful, academic experience. To help facilitate these values, the Health and Wellbeing Director assesses, analyzes, synthesizes and creates innovative approaches to address health and wellbeing concerns that affect the student body.
  • Help implement policy and holding outreach events.
  • Networking with offices and organizations across campus.
  • The Health and Wellbeing directorship is an engaging position that allows one to make positive change towards promoting healthy lifestyles.
  • Seeing health as a holistic endeavor, the Director actively supports an approach that encompasses many different elements of the health spectrum. Including physical, mental and spiritual health.
  • The Director also is responsible for managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board, in addition to advocating for any supplemental funds that may be needed.
  • In order to maintain a strong relationship between the elected officials of the student body, the Director will meet with their liaison no less than twice a month keeping them informed of upcoming events and initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Arts and Exhibits Director is responsible for showcasing visual arts exhibits by locally, regionally, and nationally known artists.
  • Other duties include promoting Arts & Exhibits events, maintaining gallery space, coordinating installation, exhibition, reception, and de-installation of all art exhibits, monitoring attendance at gallery exhibits and events, and leading the biannual MSU Student Art Market with the Assistant.
  • Must conduct a call for entry, create a selection committee, review applications, and select artists for exhibitions in The Exit Gallery and the Information Technology Center in the Renne Library.   • Create social media and marketing action plans to be implemented by Assistant Director. Create Art Market action plans and join assistant in implementing Art Market administration.
  • Promote the gallery space and arts as a campus resource.
  • Hire, manage, and supervise student employees of the Exit Gallery. Meet regularly with Assistant Director to discuss employees, assistant duties, and any concerns.

The Student Political Action Director/Lobbyist (SPA) is the student connection between ASMSU, the state, and local government. They must advocate for student issues important to the student body. Responsibilities include coordinating ASMSU legislative initiatives at both the state and local level, staying up to date on local government issues and report government initiatives to ASMSU Senate, and working with the student body to promote voter education and turnout. 2020-2021 Position Description

The Montana Associated Students Professional lobbyist is responsible for the professional representation of Montana University System students (inclusive of Montana State University-Bozeman, University of Montana-Missoula, Great Falls College MSU, Montana State University-Northern, University of Montana-Western, Montana State University-Billings, Montana Tech of the University of Montana and Miles Community College) at the 65th Montana Legislative Session.

 

Work Schedule: 40 hours/week during academic year (excluding university holidays & breaks).

Employment Start Date:  August 17th, 2020

Wage:  Stipend - $6,400 for entire legislative term; $2,100 for living expenses. Per diem provided for travel as necessary.

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a full-time enrolled MSU-Bozeman student fall 2020 and spring 2021 (at least 12 credits per semester).

The successful candidate will:

  • Be required to lobby (attempt to influence) legislators on the legislative priorities approved by the Montana University System (MUS) and MAS. This will include but is not limited to:
    • The Long Range Building Program
    • State Employee Pay Plan
    • Postsecondary education affordability (tuition freeze)—requiring extensive knowledge about these bills (past and present) and the ability to speak about them in committee and closed meetings.
  • The MAS lobbyist will need to be personable, professional and approachable.
  • They will be required to register as a professional lobbyist through the Commissioner of Political Practices of the State of Montana and turn in required forms through the session regarding expenditures.
  • An applicant must be an expert on the issues they will represent and have close relationships with each college and university in MAS to gather data and information to share with legislators when they have questions.
  • They should be a competent public speaker and a strong self-motivated, independent activist.
  • This position is required to testify on a minimum set number of bills (decided upon by MAS Executive Team), distribute informative “call-to-action” literature to MAS campuses on specific bills, write reports about each meeting with a legislator (minimum number of meetings set by MAS Executive Team), and gather and organize a full report and all documentation from the entire legislative session at its conclusion and present to the MAS Executive Team.
  • The successful candidate will be a confident leader, with great emotional intelligence and able to inspire students from all MAS campuses.
  • They are required to report to MAS and the MAS president in a timely manner.
  • The MAS lobbyist will team with the other universities’ student government lobbyists on these issues and will be required to travel to each college and university of MAS during the session.
  • They will achieve a close working relationship with the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education (OCHE) and will be expected to attend meetings at OCHE and meetings with the Board of Regents (BOR) of MUS.
  • This position requires the lobbyist to make strong relationships with legislators in both the State House of Representatives and State Senate.
  • This person will need to work efficiently and effectively with others, preparing documents to share with MAS affiliates, MUS professional lobbyists and OCHE.
  • This person will live in Helena, Montana for the entirety of the Legislative Session (January 1-May 1, 2021).
  • It’s preferred that the applicant has a background in local and state politics with basic knowledge of student issues and the Montana University System.

Latenight Streamline Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Latenight Director leads the Streamline Latenight bus attendants and coordinates all aspects of the Latenight bus program.
  • The Director hires, trains, schedules, and manages a team of students and should have the ability to lead the team and assist in Latenight runs, when needed. This includes being on call and remaining available to assist in last minute requests and situations.
  • The Director must be able to think in high-pressure situations, have a desire to be committed to preventing drunk driving accidents, and have a passion for environmentally- friendly transportation.
  • CPR and first-aid training are preferred.
  • The Director will work closely with Karst Stage, Streamline, and HRDC to continue improving and growing the Latenight program.
  • The Director is responsible for distributing Streamline maps/schedules around campus (Ask Us Desk, campus offices, residence halls) and within the Bozeman community and ensure that the locations stay stocked.
  • The Director is responsible for managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board.
  • The Director will organize the MSU Airport Shuttle during Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Break.
  • The Director is responsible for creating signups for both drivers and student riders, coordinating pick up and drop off spots, collecting money, remaining on call for emergencies, and being able to drive the shuttle if needed.
  • Lastly, the Director will be asked to attend bi-monthly program director meetings.

The OSE is looking for a Registered Student Organization (RSO) Funding Assistant. Work Schedule:  Flexible, depending on academic schedule.  7-9 hours/week during academic year (excluding university holidays & breaks). The Assistant works a maximum of 110 hours per semester at a rate of $10 per hour. Hours will be approximately 4-5 hours per regular week and 10-20 during reception and art sale weeks.

  • The Assistant will be the first point of attendant management in regards to scheduling conflicts.

  • The Public Relations Director will create a comprehensive and consistent marketing strategy to promote all Office of Student Engagement and ASMSU programs, activities, and events to ensure MSU students are fully aware of the services and programs that the office provides.
  • The Director will strive to centralize the Office of Student Engagement branding efforts to establish a general understanding of the overall mission of the organization.
  • The PR Director must be proficient in email, photography, Facebook Ads, and social media including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • The PR Director will manage and work closely with the office Graphic Designer, will manage the creation and purchasing of Office of Student Engagement promotional items, will table at promotional events such as Orientation, MSU Friday, and Catapalooza, will assist other Office of Student Engagement Program Directors in the promotion of their events, and will manage all Office of Student Engagement social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter).
  • The Director will also hire and manage 1-2 associates that work alongside the Director to assist with the logistics of office public relations.
  • In addition, the Director is responsible for managing a budget which includes routine presentations to the ASMSU Senate and Finance Board.
  • The Director will also be requested to attend weekly PACE (Programming and Campus Events) Board meetings to ensure communication and collaboration with the Office of Student Engagement as a whole entity.

  • The Media Productions Director must be skilled in photography, videography, 2D animation, organization of their assets, and communication with the other members of the Public Relations team (especially the Public Relations Director) and their clients.
  • The Media Productions Director must be proficient in video editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid, etc.), photo editing software (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.), and animation software (After Effects).
  • The Media Productions Director will be expected to create promotional videos and graphics for events throughout the year (Trivia Nights, Contracted Entertainers, Etc.).
  • The Media Productions Director will also produce recap highlight videos of larger events (MSU Debut, Homecoming, Spring Concert, etc.).
  • The Media Productions Director will be expected to attend all or nearly all of the events hosted on campus to film/take pictures and video.
