RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE

THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY

Adopted 7 March 2019

Whereas,There are over 270 diverse student clubs and organizations on the Montana State University (MSU) campus who regularly put on events that require indoor facilities; and,

Whereas,The MSU Administration has the ultimate discretion to control how all campus spaces are used; and,

Whereas,Misunderstandings have recently occurred surrounding the use of Inspiration Hall leading to confusion and frustration for student organizations; and,

Whereas,A policy and process for booking outdoor campus spaces is already in place; and,

Whereas,A clear, concise policy and process that addresses how student organizations may book and use indoor campus spaces, especially when stipulations exist regarding their event, does not currently exist; and,

Whereas,Coordination between all involved offices and parties is critical to the success and safety of public events; now, therefore, be it

Resolved,That the ASMSU supports the creation of a policy and process that clearly defines how student organizations may use indoor campus spaces, including the types of events that are appropriate, when they may be used, and how they may be obtained; and,

Resolved,That this new policy would not impact regularly scheduled campus meetings; and,

Resolved,That this new policy and process would include all relevant parties, including the student voice, regarding the details of the event in question in order to address concerns regarding safety, security, and organization.
