RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE OF THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY

Adopted 13 September 2018

Whereas, The 6-Mill Levy is a legislative referendum that has been voted on every 10 years since 1948 in Montana and will be voted on again in November 2018; and,

Whereas, The funds obtained from passing the 6-Mill Levy extensively support higher education within the Montana University System by directly strengthening student resources, instructors, and student programs; and,

Whereas, The 6-Mill Levy is not an increase in property tax nor a new tax, but a tradition in which Montana commits to the success of all college and university students in the state; and,

Whereas, The passing of the 6-Mill Levy makes higher education affordable for Montana students and the failing of the 6-Mill Levy could constitute an 18% increase in tuition; and,

Whereas, The 6-Mill Levy benefits all communities in Montana by promoting research that develops breakthrough technologies and practices that aid the improvement and protection of Montana’s public lands, agricultural industry, and fisheries; and,

Whereas, The 6-Mill Levy helps Montana students gain valuable education that would lead them to get better jobs; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Associated Students of Montana State University highly support the passing of the 6-Mill Levy.
