RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE
OF
THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY
Adopted 5 April 2018
Whereas, The minutes of the Montana Associated Students (MAS) meetings are not posted on their website; and
Whereas, The aforementioned action is in direct violation of Article IV Section 1.3 of the MAS Constitution: “a copy of the minutes, upon approval, will be presented to each member of MAS and made available to the Board of Regents and public within two weeks following each meeting,”1; and
Whereas, MAS and MSU – Bozeman’s Executives failed to effectively communicate application deadline and requirements to their constituents; and
Whereas, No students at MSU - Bozeman, outside of executive student leadership, had knowledge of the application requirements or deadline; and
Whereas, With a fall enrollment of 16,703 students, MSU – Bozeman represents 44% of the overall enrollment of the Montana University System (MUS)2; and
Whereas, These oversights impede upon the aim of the Student Regent’s position to represent the interests of all students of the MUS; and
Whereas, These oversights have exposed inequitable flaws in the due process of Student Regent nominations which may have been shared by other MUS campuses; now, therefore be it
Resolved, That the students of MSU – Bozeman urge the governor to re-open the Student Regent application in order to fully consider the entirety of the MUS student population.
