RESOLUTION OF THE SENATE
OF
THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY
Adopted 12 April 2018
Whereas, The adoption and use of “Homecoming Royalty” for all Homecoming candidates provides an opportunity for all students to be involved in what was historically an exclusionary event reinforced by the gender binary; and,
Whereas, The adoption of this language will not change Homecoming Committee’s practices for selecting and interviewing Homecoming candidates; and,
Whereas, The Associated Students of Montana State University (ASMSU) Constitution states that ASMSU shall not discriminate according to sexual preference and gender identity or expression; and,
Whereas, There is no language within the ASMSU Bylaws restricting this change; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That ASMSU approves of the adoption and use of the term “Homecoming Royalty” for all Homecoming candidates.
